We use Vista Ultimate in our marketing/advertising business and it is installed on 15 boxes both x32 & x64. We were in on the beta. Not Vista. folks where I bought my machine said it's b/c Vista has gotten corrupted and I need to re-install it.. (an entire OS that gets corrupted, whoever heard of such a thing.

According to Geeks Anatomy, Jeff DaVos (a Windows Vista SP1 beta program leader) has said on the Connect news group that this is indeed the same release being anything except for files downloaded from Microsoft directly is a risk. If you plan to install SP1 via the registry changes, you are accepting this risk.

I've been running Vista Ultimate x64 since beta days, multi-booting many different combinations until Vista RTM. Since December 2006, though, I've seldom booted and My recommendation is that you take a few days to play with Windows Mail just to see what it's like, then download and install Windows Live Mail.

If you have installed a beta version of the service pack before or manually edited your registry, SP1 may be showing up on Windows Update. So far, Windows Update will not show the availablility of the service pack. But with a little registry editing, you can trigger Windows Update to download and install the RTM

It is Beta 2.1 for Vista and I think it is safe to download. Run it. Are you REALLY sure it's safe to download and "Run it"!?! Now, be honest - are you REALLY sure about that? It will want to run upon install. Choose the FULL scan although it may give you a threatening message that it might take a few hours.
